On AI and Moloch

Ah Moloch, an ancient god or anti-god who often demanded child-sacrifice. In popular culture Moloch has been figuratively used in reference to a power which demands a dire sacrifice. And in game theory Moloch has a very clear definition:

Moloch is the personification of the forces that coerce competing individuals to take actions which, although locally optimal, ultimately lead to situations where everyone is worse off. Moreover, no individual is able to unilaterally break out of the dynamic. The situation is a bad Nash equilibrium. A trap.

https://www.lesswrong.com/tag/moloch#

This game theoretic Moloch lurks everywhere. This argument by poker pro Liv Boeree really made it hit home for me: Moloch: The Beauty Wars. She uses the example of beauty filters on TikTok, IG, etc. Say you’re an influencer lady known for your good looks. Basically a solid dime piece 10 in any real-world situation. So you take a selfie and post it. Thousands of likes and thirsty simps appear instantly. Every time. Which brings in money and enables your fabulous lifestyle. One booty pic at a time. Life is good. Until…

The TikTok trap

Tiktok suddenly introduces a beauty filter. But you’re insanely pretty already, so what’s the point? You dismiss it at first. But then maybe your numbers start to fall a bit. Or maybe your competitors just start to get really, really, really good-looking all of a sudden.

So one night you give it a go. You take your usual 25 selfies to find the best one. Boom, perfect. Then you click on the filter. WTF?

Suddenly the old you looks stale, old and boring. There’s one thing that you are sure of. This New You will get more likes. And there’s no harm in trying out something new right? So you post it. As does everyone else in your shoes.

Fast-forward a couple of years. Every influencer uses a filter to post something, be it a beauty filter or the newly introduced “no filter” -filter which makes you look “authentic”. Every girl on the planet is even more dissatisfied with how they look because all they post and see are filtered images. And the crazy thing? Nobody gained anything. The influencers were always playing a zero-sum game and the market didn’t grow one bit with the introduction of beauty filters. They were all forced to use it even though they didn’t want to. And every person involved is now worse off than before. THAT is motherfucking Moloch.

Literal demons

You follow now? You understand the concept? Good. Now let’s get to the juicy bit. Molochs are everywhere. This whole dumb-ass argument about capitalism vs socialism would end in a day if people were smart enough to frame the argument on Moloch vs humanity. You can play Moloch games within capitalism. You can play Moloch games within socialism. The rational mind would argue that warped incentives create Moloch games: If you need money to live then you’re quite inclined to do anything for money. And the “if we don’t do it then someone else will” -argument is born.

But rational arguments are boring. And we like to dip our toes into conspiratorial crazy territory every now and then, don’t we? If the ancients have been warning us about Moloch for literally thousands of years, I like to think there’s something there. This problem has always been with us. And the ancients invented a language to talk about it. Instead of game theory and mathematics, they told stories. If you live a virtuous life, you are shielded from demons. If you sin, you are at their mercy. Religions enshrined rules to live by, which help keep Moloch at bay. And society progressed. Slowly at first, then at an ever-increasing pace. Then we killed religion.

Everyone knows atheism has been on the rise for quite awhile. Which means you got more and more people liberated from the shackles of religion, free to explore any ideology. And those people eventually invent things. Like AI.

What would Jesus do?

I would bet quite a bit of money that THE person credited for the invention of first true AGI won’t be a religious person. Probably partly because religious people tend to be dumber. Sorry, just facts. But:

When about every super-genius from Max Tegmark, Stuart Russel, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and on and on is begging you to stop before it’s too late, you might want to listen. But they won’t. Because there’s no holy code anymore telling them what’s good or what’s bad. And if they don’t do it, the Chinese surely will. Boom, Moloch.

What’s so bad about AI then? Don’t you want an abundant utopia where machines do all the work? No, I don’t. It’s pretty well-established fact of human psychology that we need a certain amount of discomfort in our lives to help create meaning. If you take that discomfort away, you’re left with numbness, not happiness. And you know this as well as I do, if you’re old enough to remember life before the Internet.

Which is more fun: Going to a DVD-rental place with another person, browsing the shelves, debating on which movie to watch, buying some candy and walking back home to watch said movie, versus sitting on the couch with the same person browsing Netflix? Which is more rewarding to listen to: The album you place into the CD/vinyl-player with your own hands, knowing full well you’ll be listening to his album for the next hour, which you bought from the store and carried home, versus clicking on a song in Spotify? Which feels better: Talking to people, or chat-messaging people?

We know this. We’ve fucking known this for a hundred years. And yet we keep marching on. Towards “progress”. And soon, and I mean really fucking soon, like in the next 2 months, AI will start to demolish jobs that people truly enjoy. You studied 3D animation for years to finally land that job making movies? Sorry, learn to write prompts. You’ve sacrificed endless long nights climbing to the top of the corporate hierarchy in an advertising/law/medical/accounting/consulting-firm? Learn to write prompts.

Some will. And our productivity across every industry will skyrocket 10x, 100x, 1000x. But the market (demand for those services) won’t 10x. It won’t even 2X. It will 0,5X if we’re lucky, as a result of all the layoffs of white-collar workers, because there’s no way to manage a shift this enormous without a massive societal disruption.

Boom, motherfucking Moloch.

Life on the other side

So what does this abundant utopia look like? It will look like universal basic income in the places that are lucky enough to survive the coming job-apocalypse. Some governments will fall. Monetary systems will fall. Some people and corporations will became unimaginably rich. Geopolitical forces will shift in way never seen before. And it’s unstoppable. Because if we don’t do it, the Chinese surely will.

And that is the optimistic scenario. In the less optimistic scenario all humans, and all biological life will die.

Moloch. Boom?

Here we go again…

When the same people who blew up the world economy tell you it’s gonna be alright, you might want to be a bit suspicious.

Two of the biggest three bank blow-ups in the US ever happened last week. Credit Suisse in Switzerland is, and has been, on the brink of collapse for awhile now. Contagion risks are everywhere. The Fed is injecting up to 4.4 trillion usd of liquidity into the banking sector via Bank Term Funding Program, by essentially guaranteeing every cent the banks hold. It’s a one-year program but as Milton Friedman said “Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program”. And for reference, Fed printed roughly 4.189 trillion in response to COVID, the liquidity injection that started the whole craziness.

4.4 > 4.189 for the math-challenged.

Prophetic

The rate rises of the past year or so have resulted in inflation dropping from the highs of 9% down to 6% in the US. 6% is still a fuckload of inflation. For the rest of the world it looks even worse. And now the money spigots are turning on again, with full blast. There really are only two ways out of this situation:

  1. More rate rises, more pain, a lot more pain
  2. Quantitative easing or some other bullshit term for money printing, leading to hyperinflation which causes even more pain

It looks like the Fed chose door number two. The European Central Bank is still adorably raising rates but it’s not gonna take long for any number of European banks to fall under distress, in addition to the already mentioned Credit Suisse. And at that point, the only thing stopping a full-on monetary and banking collapse is more money printing by the ECB by stepping in to guarantee bank deposits. And if they don’t, all the smart money will run to the US faster than you can switch genders in any modern western country. If your money is personally guaranteed by the Fed to be safe when it’s held in dollars, and not in euros, well…

Why does any of this matter?

Well my son. Imagine a nice glass of Coca-Cola. Sugary, refreshing, bubbly, diabetesy, yummy. Now pour half a glass of water into it. What happens? Spill-over and dilution. This is what’s happening to the money in your pocket when the central banks fuck with it. They dilute your buying power and create spill-over effects that cause a mess. To clean that mess, they pour more water, further diluting your wealth. This is what they did when COVID hit. Then they started cleaning up the mess by taking the rest of your shitty watered down coke away. And now they’re turning on the garden hose on you again.

Sanna Marin in any budget negotiation

The worst part is that all of this was always fairly obvious. Most western countries are up to their necks in debt and there’s no realistic way to ever pay it back UNLESS you cause a massive inflationary melt-up. Essentially you blow up your own currency (and fuck over your populations) to pay your bills. And because people aren’t making more people like they used to, the clock is ticking. Now if only there was a term for a demonic plan like this. A very very very big reset?

Because I love saying that I told you so, here are some things to look out for in the coming months:

  • Calls for central bank digital currencies to “fix” the situation with banks
  • Blaming cryptocurrencies for the banking crisis (after all it all started with Silvergate, a “crypto-friendly” bank)
  • Escalating tensions between great powers and more hot wars across the world, partly to distract and partly to justify money printing

We’re entering into an even messier world. Stay safe.

The Greatest Marketing Campaign of All Time

Ever since Covid-19 began, something about it smelled funny. It seemed manufactured, orchestrated and controlled. Of couse, now it’s looking more and more likely that the virus itself WAS actually manufactured in a lab, a theory which at one point got you banned from Facebook because it’s racist or something.

I’m not an virologist, epidemiologist or a gynecologist. But I’m an expert of two things: Marketing and evolutionary health. Perhaps it’s this unique perspective that makes it so hard for me to believe the official narrative of events. None of this makes sense from an evolutionary health perspective BUT makes all the sense from a marketing perspective. It’s the most viral marketing campaign of all time.

Marketing has come a long way since the 1950’s. People have became media-savvy. I mean look how cute car ads from the 1950’s look to us now:

But as people have became more media-savvy, marketers have become more people-savvy. How do you create a movement? You start with a teaser. You build up hype. You recruit people to spread the word for you. You launch big. You get people hooked. You recruit brand ambassadors. You create a community. Eventually you settle to a quarterly product update cycle with big beats breaking the baseline.

The teaser

In January 2020, the world started seeing weird photos and news reports coming from China. People dropping dead on the streets. Whole cities quarantined. People being welded shut inside their apartments. A leak happened. We got a peek of something that we never normally see. After all, China is very secretive about its internal affairs.

One of the early videos

The “tease first, deny later” tactic is of course very much business as usual. You could find something similar about any product launch. Here’s a recent example with the new Spiderman movie.

The hype builds

Now pretty soon it became clear that this thing is spreading everywhere. I mean, it’s a virus. That’s what they do. People around the world started getting a bit nervous, but because we’re generally not crazy, we didn’t stay home or start wearing masks everywhere.

The Big Short (2015), Brad Pitt wears a mask and Greetings Chinese guy - YouTube
Brad Pitt’s character in The Big Short was such a crazy conspiracy theorist that he wore a mask while flying.

Then the Flatten The Curve meme appeared.

How to Flatten the Curve on Coronavirus - The New York Times

Suddenly everyone knew what we had to do. Stay home for two weeks. Flatten the curve. Then we can go back to normal. Don’t be a selfish asshole. You can stay home for two weeks. Unless of course you’re a food delivery guy in which case we need YOU to bring ME food. But then stay home. The only piece of practical know-how that has spread this far and wide in the history of mankind is that you have to blow into a NES game cassette before you plug it in.

The launch event

Italy is a good place to launch. It’s got history. It’s got traditions. Colosseum, gladiators & pizza. And launch it did. Soon the whole word was inundated by pictures from Italian covid wards, of people singing to the first responders from their windows, of people young and old in ventilators. Everyone was watching. And 136 000 people have since died with Covid in Italy.

Or have they? Italian newspaper Il Tempo reports that the Institute has revised downward the number of people who have died from COVID rather than with COVID from 130,000 to under 4,000. A reduction of mere 97%. Whoops.

“According to the Institute, 65.8% of Italians who died after being infected with Covid were ill with arterial hypertension (high blood pressure), 23.5% had dementia, 29.3% had diabetes, and 24.8% atrial fibrillation. Add to that, 17.4% had lung problems, 16.3% had had cancer in the last five years and 15.7% suffered from previous heart failures.”

Facts that hurt

We know this in December 2021. We didn’t know it in the March of 2020. So of course everyone freaked out. They stayed inside. They ate the delivery food. They were happy to be alive. Until they became angry.

Getting people hooked

Now of course staying inside for two weeks wasn’t enough. Two weeks came and went but the virus was still a virus, and viruses like honeybadgers don’t care. It was the time roll out the next phase: Politicization. It was because of Trump that Covid hit. Now, because US politics run the whole world news cycle, this became the dominant narrative everywhere. The Trump of Finland is Perussuomalaiset, The Trump of France is Marine Le Penn, The Trump of Great Britain is anyone who supported Brexit and so on. Those right wing bastards. If only they had stayed home. Of course the reason they did’t stay home was because the mainly are the people who keep society running, the water pumping, the electricity flowing and bake the bread for your avocado toasts.

With sufficient political passion now stoked, it was time to start recruiting brand ambassadors. And boom, like that, the social media was full of blue-check-marked people explaining how we’re gonna get through this. Wash your hands, stay home and whatever you do, DON’T FOR THE LOVE OF GOD wear a mask.

This first phase of anti-masking lasted maybe a month and then it was time for the next step: MASK-O-MANIA! Everyone needs to wear a mask. Babies, cats, dogs and your Facebook profile picture.

The handy thing about masks is that they’re free brand exposure. Everyone’s wearing your logo, if you’re the coronavirus. The mask became the fidget spinner of 2020.

Masks may or may not have played a small role in the spread of Covid-19 but they played a massive role in dividing people into good little soldiers and bad selfish rebels. Masked face good, normal face bad.

The VIP program

With the public succesfully divided in half, it was time to dive deeper. The mask-wearing fanboys don’t just want to win. They want to score the most points. At first, the way to achieve high score was to wear more than one mask. Nice guys wear two masks but triple-maskers get to go home and fuck the prom queen.

Imagine Sean Connery saying the last sentence

And then, like a godsend, by the time the public was getting maybe a bit bored with triplemasking, the vaccines arrived. By the way, definitely not intentionally after the US presidential election, no way, no sir. And it was great, now you could even add a sticker to your masked FB profile picture.

Encourage Your Friends to Get a COVID-19 Vaccine | Meta
They don’t even know that they needed two

And not only that, pretty soon we got the news we really wanted to hear: You can get more than one! In fact, you can even mix and match the different vaccines together! What could be greater? Getting the J&J first, then Pfizer and finishing off with Moderna before your 4th round is like the new 360 no-scope headshot. You basically become an immortal god of modern science and health. And of course, you get to shame the unvaccinated harder with every Covid-loyalty jab you get.

Business as usual

Phew, those were some fun times back in 2020 and early 2021. Unfortunately nothing lasts forever, even global pandemics. The joys of tearing the fabric of society apart for a virus with 99,7% survival rate are now fading. But it’s not all bad, we’re finally entering The New Normal they always told us would arrive. Apparently, it involves getting vaccinated every 3 months, which definitely is just a coincidence and not intentional to boost profits on a quarterly basis. What? You’re saying that a quarter is 3 months? Well I just said it’s a coincidence so shut up already. Just get your loyalty booster and be done with it.

Of course you need to spice up your messaging every now and again to keep people onboard. So you could for example roll out product updates with Greek alphabet names maybe once or twice a year. Just make sure to skip Xi not to anger you-know-who, amirite LOL?

So what the fuck are you saying?

Marketing, PR and propaganda are kissing cousins. Ask yourself: If this was the marketing campaign, what is the product they’re selling you?

Till next time, my fellow consumers.

Not what they say, but what they do

Years ago after reading Nassim Taleb’s Antifragile I drastically changed my perspective on two things: The parasitic “elite” class and the news. My new perspective could be summarised into two sentences:

1) Don’t listen what they say, instead watch what they do.

2) 99% of the news is noise, and 1% is signal.

It’s almost impossible to explain how much these two simple things changed everything. It really felt like seeing behind the matrix. Suddenly politicians or CEOs didn’t seem out of touch and incompetent as always, but rather mostly malicious and greedy. They are simply acting on the incentives in front of them. With no skin in the game, you don’t need to play by the same rules as everyone else. Instead of reading or watching the news (where 99% is noise) I spent that time reading books, listening to podcasts and diving deeper into subjects (where it’s mostly signal). I started to understand the world better.

Enter Covid-19

It’s really no surprise then that when Covid started I looked at it very differently from the people who trust “the experts” on the news. If in normal times 99% of the news is noise, with a novel virus wreaking havoc around the world you can safely say that the ratio is even higher. Therefore most of the day-to-day stuff ever since this debacle started is simply not true or not meaningful. Two weeks to slow the spread, or was it two years? One day masks are not needed, the next day they are the most important thing in the world. One day vaccines will take decades, the next day we have multiple vaccines ready to go. One day the vaccine will offer 100% protection from hospitalization, death and spread but the next day you need a third booster shot. Now we’re onto the next stage where the inflation from destroying the world economy and printing trillions will soon go away, no wait actually inflation is good for you.

At the same time, what did our leaders do? They were caught maskless in public spaces countless times, broke Covid-rules left and right, made millions insider trading , overhyped the effectiveness of every Covid-measure and of course locked YOU down over and over again, nevermind the cost.

If instead of being caught in the middle of it all, you try to zoom way out and look at the situation from a distance, a very clear signal starts to appear. This was never about your health. Don’t get me wrong. There is a virus, and it’s dangerous. But so is the influenza. We’ve never taken any of the Covid-measures against the influenza. And for sure we’ve never taken any steps against the influenza as a global collective. So why did all this happen? Again. Don’t listen to what they say. Watch what they do.

Eliminate the control group

The motives are unclear. Maybe it’s a bunch of cigarette smoking men in a dark room plotting against the humanity. Or more likely, maybe it’s just a spiral of incompetence and desperation flushing down the toilet at ever-increasing speed towards the inevitable. Whatever the reasons behind it, the IT is clear. Ever since this started, NOTHING HAS WORKED. In fact, the situation is now worse. Cases are now higher even with 100% vaccination rates than ever before. Seasonal virus gonna seasonal virus. Third booster shots are being administered with talks of 4th and 5h one already on the way when the first two didn’t work. Completely illogical vaccine passports are rolled out everywhere against massive public resistance.

And don’t get me started on vaccine safety. In time, the truth will come out on that front too. And it’s not gonna look pretty. Some countries pause vaccinating children due to heart problem concerns while others plan to vaccinate toddlers. What this is all about is not being able to admit defeat. The experts lost. The virus won. It’s the sunk cost fallacy: They doubled down with their every move and every time they got knocked out. And when our leaders fail, we expect heads to roll.

But there’s a catch. If they eliminate the control group, they can keep playing. The control group of course being the unvaccinated and countries that didn’t lock down. So you pressure the unvaxed people to take the jab by any means necessary, and publicly shame countries like Sweden until their new government conveniently rolls out vaccine passports despite the fact that the country looks nothing like the rest of Europe. You ignore pesky little continents like Africa and focus your state-sponsored fear porn machinery on the coming winter. Stay scared. Keep trusting us. Don’t think.

What else could have they done, you ask? I don’t know, how about a Manhattan project of public health where the aim was to reduce obesity, top-up population vitamin D-levels, lower stress levels, get people moving and investigate every possible known treatment option? Probably cheaper than 10 trillion with massive upside benefits to every other disease.

It was never about health. It was about gaining and maintaining control. That’s the signal in the noise. We’ll see how many bodies it takes to keep that strangle hold.

The great 9/11 conspiracy special

“Why are you such a conspiracy theorist?” is a question I hear often. Well, because of 9/11, silly. An actual conspiracy that happened live on TV 20 years ago and changed the world in a dramatic fashion. Where to even start with all the fuckery and shenanigans? Well I guess it’s fair to give the devil its due and cover the official story first. Even IF you believe every word of the Official Approved 9/11 Explanation ™, it’s a conspiracy. 20 or so hijackers conspired to run two planes into the WTC towers, 1 into Pentagon and another one crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania. By happenstance there was drove of military exercises simulating plane hijackings taking place at the same time so nobody knew what was real. The world then coincidentally turned to an absolute authoritarian hellhole with the NSA spying on everyone at all times, and the Middle East was turned into an endless warzone, having nothing to do with oil of course.

The infamous “fallling man” picture

The official story is complete bullshit though 👆

If you haven’t followed the conspiracy side of 9/11 stories, you probably haven’t even heard of Tower 7.

That’s very much intentional. It’s because the collapse of Tower 7 makes absolute no fucking sense. Towers 1 and 2 were hit with planes, sure. But Tower 7 was never hit, is pretty far away from towers 1 and 2 and went down in a second, right into its footprint like a controlled demolition. Actual footage, for your viewing pleasure:

Never in the history of humanity (or since 9/11) has a skyscraper collapsed due to fires, but on that faithful day it happened 3 times. Sure. Here’s a building in Milan that went up in flames just recently. Didn’t collapse though.

Maybe the Italians just know how to build better buildings? Nevermind the fact that WTC-towers were actually designed to sustain an impact from an airplane. So why or how did Tower 7 collapse then? Fuck if I know. But I’m pretty sure it wasn’t office fires from other fires several hundred meters across. NIST (National Institute on Standards & Technology) released a report in 2008 on Tower 7 collapse which has been widely discredited by architects and engineers worldwide. As have been the NIST models of towers 1 and 2 collapsing.: NIST collapse simulation is seen around the 1-minute timestamp of this video. You tell me if it looks like what actually happened in the real world.

We could talk about towers 1 and 2 for quite awhile too, but maybe they just were the only two skyscrapers ever to collapse from a plane crash and/or fires, directly and neatly into their own footprint with free-fall speed. I mean everything is possible, right?

What about the hijackers then? Well, luckily four of their passports survived intact from the plane crash, fire and a building collapsing into dust. That’s not suspicious at all. Passports are built to last, after all. Not like they’re made of paper or something.

What about the Pentagon plane? Good question. I mean there has to be an endless amount of footage about a freaking plane crashing into the most guarded building on Earth? Well of course there is, glad you asked. Check out this video at timestamp 2:42 to see 3 whole frames of something maybe hitting Pentagon and the explosion that follows. Not kidding. That’s the only one. Trust us.

The Pennsylvania plane was almost certainly shot down by intercepting fighter jets, but I like the “Let’s roll” -story, so let’s leave that one to rest. Passengers fought the hijackers and brought the plane down. Gotta respect good propaganda when you see it. The debris from the plane was spread over a 13km radius. Because it just was. That’s how planes crash. Don’t question us.

The rewriting of history

Unsurprisingly all the 911 documentaries, articles and footage that question the official narrative have been neatly sanitised, censored, tucked away and debunked if you only search through Google/Youtube. Luckily that wasn’t always the case. See, when 9/11 happened, the Internet was still remarkably free. “Loose Change” was the documentary that kicked everything off and it wasn’t alone. Dive into the rabbit hole with these when you feel like it.

9/11 is such a wealth of intriguing mysteries, because almost nothing about it makes sense. The physics of the collapsing towers, the hijackers being expert-flyers, the complete lack of response from the US military/navy/air force, Tower 7, the Pentagon crash, United-93 and of course the aftermath of everything that followed: The WMDs in Iraq that never existed, the Afghanistan war and of course the assassination of Osama Bin Laden who was then tossed overboard into water without photo proof.

Let’s end on a happy note. A 20-dollar note. Here’s what you see if you fold a 20-dollar bill just right:

Yeah, I dont know either. Sweet dreams.

In Finland we have this thing called sisu

No we don’t. We used to be resilient, brave, uncompromising and gutsy. But now we will sell out our national character and founding principles to multinational Big Pharma companies because we are too afraid. Vaccination passports are in all likelihood coming to Finland this fall, despite the fact that they are literally illegal. They will create a two-tier system of the clean and the unclean. But we’re afraid. So we’ll comply.

This kid gets it.

Nevermind the fact that the most vaccinated countries such as Israel are already preparing for new lockdowns and the most laissez-faire country on Earth, Sweden, now reports 0 daily covid deaths. Or that in the UK cases crashed down immediately after the country stopped locking down. Vaccine penetration (or lockdowns for that matter) of a country has literally nothing to do with case counts at this stage. If anything, it actually looks like most vaccinated countries are seeing the highest case counts. Like Iceland with 71.3% of the population fully vaccinated and highest case counts since the start of the pandemic. In March I predicted that the vaccines might cause the virus to mutate faster. Isn’t this exactly what you would expect to see if that was indeed the case?

I already know what you’re going to say. “But the deaths and hospitalisations are down so the vaccines are working”. Deaths and hospitalisation are indeed down basically everywhere. But isn’t the whole point of vaccines to eradicate a disease? If they do nothing to eradicate the disease, it would be more accurate to call them treatments now would it? Which brings us back to where we started: vaccination passports. If highly vaccinated countries are seeing exploding case counts, WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF A VACCINE PASSPORT? Vaccinated or not, you can still get covid-19. You can still pass it on. Actually I would argue that if the vaccine lessens your symptoms you are more likely to pass it on unknowingly.

What’s the big deal? Just get the jab and shut up.

Because we don’t negotiate with terrorists. Medical privacy is a right until it’s not, and if you give it up now, you’ll never get it back. History is a constant tug-of-war between freedom and tyranny. Whether I’m vaccinated or not is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Full stop. The free civil societies we inhabit were built on principles that are never to be broken. Sometimes it means that a guilty man walks free because once upon a time we deemed that it’s more important to make sure that an innocent man is never convicted. Once you break those principles once, they are broken forever.

Pandemics are unpleasant. They force us to study ourselves and the people around us. What is truly important? How much risk are you willing to accept for yourself, for your family, for your neighbours, for people you don’t know? Unpleasant questions. You know what else is unpleasant? Life. We’re so coddled and spoiled now that we can’t deal with anything even remotely difficult anymore, so we’re willing to give up all personal accountability when someone promises to save us. No matter how incompetent or deceiving they are. Help me daddy. Govern me daddy. Harder.

Then there are the practical issues. Vaccinating your entire population (which is the clear goal of enforcing vaccine passports) with a novel vaccine, manufactured outside of your country, creates massive systemic risk. You’re now reliant on multinational pharmaceutical companies to protect your population from future virus waves or unforeseen vaccine consequences. Doesn’t sound very robust or independent, does it?

If Finland goes down the route of vaccine passports, medical apartheid and two-tier society, we no longer deserve to claim sisu for ourselves. If anyone does, it’s now the Swedes. There’s something I didn’t see coming in 2019.

The problem with “being green”

We all love the environment, right? I mean who doesn’t like clean air, water, forests, etc? Not to mention animals. There’s a reason why David Attenborough is still making nature documentaries: People just eat them up. So if that’s all true, why is nature so fucked then? In fact, according to some midwits, the world is ending in 12 years. As with most things, the answer is both simple and complex: Most humans love cheap shit more than they love the environment, but the world isn’t ending.

Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, isn’t convinced

Pollution is a real problem. Pumping crap into the environment we (and animals) live in is a bad idea. Usually polluting is cheaper than not polluting, so the market incentives tend to lead toward pollution. The problem can be tackled two ways: The consumer can demand companies not to pollute and countries can enforce stricter environmental safety. The first option works better since it plays with those same market dynamics which lead to polluting in the first place. People won’t buy your polluting product so you go out of business. Environmental regulations are also generally a positive force, but they introduce new unfortunate game theory into the mix: It’s now beneficial to circumvent regulations and attempt regulatory capture where you get to enforce regulations on your competitors instead of yourself. The whole ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) market is a prime example of good intentions already leading us astray. With so much money on the line, you’ll attract endless amounts of greedy bad actors.

In fact, the argument and the problem with ESG is the same as with communism or socialism. “True communism has never been tried” or “Truly green capitalism has never been tried”.

Why is this a problem? Well, both sentences above imply that essentially the problem is OTHER people but if YOU were in charge, everything would work. How fucking arrogant is that? Everyone can be corrupted, which means every system lead by people can be corrupted. Regulatory capture, remember? And even in the theoretical situation where a truly good person is but on charge, what’s to stop a bad person from shooting the good person in the head and taking their place? Power corrupts and absolute power…

Rules, not rulers

Science, as in the process, is neutral and fair. Science, as in the institutions that we have today, is corrupt as fuck. Everything is endlessly politicized for one simple reason: There’s money to be made or power to be gained. With the logic outlined above and with endless ESG-trillions on the line, how can you truly trust statements such as “97% of climate scientists agree”? Let’s assume the 97% number is correct. Market dynamics and incentives would still suggest that 97% of climate scientists who are looking for government & corporate grants to study climate change agree. Who’s funding the other ones? And at this point if you think it’s more profitable for the fossil fuel industry to fund “anti climate change” -science than to just invest into the ESG market, you might need a wake-up call.

Oh by the way, we used to be able to debate these things. Even in The New York Times. But by this point you’re probably already furious. What am I, a fucking climate change denier? No. Climate is clearly changing and we should prepare accordingly. However, and this a pretty big however, I’m highly skeptical of the people who are shoving the climate change narrative down our throats the hardest. There’s too much money and power on the line and humans are corrupt. How much money has Al Gore made from green investments since ‘An Inconvenient Truth’? In 1999 his net worth was 1.7 million USD. Today it’s over 300M USD. How many of the predictions he made in the movie have come true? Exactly.

The narrative of an imminently ending world is the most powerful propaganda tool ever created. It’s big, it’s scary and it puts the blame on YOU. Even if it’s true, it will be weaponized by sociopaths everywhere.

On energy usage

The current allowed line of thinking goes something along the lines of: All energy usage is bad because CO2 unless it’s ‘renewable energy’, in which case it’s magic and wonderful. There are so many holes in this story that I don’t even know where to start. But let’s give it a try and break the sentence into sections:

A) All energy usage is bad

No. Energy usage is the most accurate predictor of human flourishing and countries who spend the most energy also have the best natural preservation strategies globally. More energy usage leads to higher GDP and higher GDP leads to more natural sustainability.

B) Because CO2

There’s more CO2 in the world today than there were decades ago, and as a result, the world is greener.

“It is ironic that the very same carbon emissions responsible for harmful changes to climate are also fertilising plant growth, which in turn is somewhat moderating global warming”

Dr. Jarle Bjerke of the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research

The mere fact that this side of the equation is practically never mentioned in the popular media leads to me to be very skeptical of the downsides of increased CO2. The global climate is an extremely large complex system, and modelling complex systems is practically impossible because there are so many balancing forces. That said, let’s not get into a whole CO2-debate. I’m sure increased CO2 in the atmosphere has consequences that need to be studied and we should prepare for different scenarios accordingly.

C) Unless it’s ‘renewable energy’ in which case it’s magic and wonderful

Here’s where the it all falls apart. Renewable energy is generally understood only to represent wind and solar because climate change activists don’t like hydro (or nuclear for that matter). Do you see it already? It’s not always sunny. It’s not always windy. Sometimes you have neither. Some places have lots of one but not both.

Here’s what life is like in the utopia that is purely powered by renewables: The third world is full of massive stripmines because every ounce of lithium has been mined to power an endless amount of batteries which are everywhere in the first world: Buildings have batteries, cars have batteries, your apartment has batteries and every smaller item down the line has a battery. This crazy amount of batteries is needed because the power grid is unstable and unreliable. You are encouraged to charge your house, car, appliances etc at certain times and banned from doing it other times. Everything is regulated: When you move, what you eat, what you do. The reason is simple: Everything consumes energy and preserving energy is now sacred. Energy giveth, lack of energy taketh away. Happen to enjoy actually physically biking? You facist nazi. Don’t you know that an electric bike is more energy-efficient than a barbaric human-powered bike? After all, food is energy and growing food consumes energy.

And so we have arrived to the logical conclusion of the current green hysteria: All energy usage is bad, EXCEPT what they, the sacred greens, shall allow.

How to fight back?

The problem is complicated but the solution is relatively simple: Reject their entire framing. Energy usage is not bad. Renewables are a complementary solution, not the whole picture. Nuclear power is an absolute necessity, along with hydro, to create a reliable & robust energy infrastructure to phase out fossil fuels. Vote with your wallet and only buy products that don’t pollute. Like meat that is raised naturally.

Probably powered by nuclear.

And maybe read Dr Patrick Moore’s book: “In 11 chapters the reader is clearly shown that citizens are being misinformed by many environmental doomsday prophesies, ones they cannot verify for themselves. We are told that nuclear energy is very dangerous when the numbers prove it is one of the safest technologies. We are told polar bears will go extinct soon when their population has been growing steadily for nearly 50 years. We are told that there is something harmful in genetically modified food crops when it is invisible, has no name and no chemical formula. We are told severe forest fires are caused by climate change when they are actually caused by poor management of fuel load (dead wood) in the forest. We are told that all the coral reefs will die by 2100 when in fact the most diverse coral reefs are found in the warmest oceans in the world. And of course, we are told that invisible CO2 from using fossil fuels, accounting for more than 80 percent of our energy supply, will make the Earth too hot for life. All of these scare stories, and many more, are simply not true.”

Yup, pretty inconvenient.

Pax Bitcoinica

Bitcoin crashed 40%ish today and died for the 414th time. A small speed bump on the way to world domination and a true monetary revolution. The entire world will eventually use Bitcoin as the base layer of value for everything. There will be dollars, yuans, euros, etc but they will all be denominated in Bitcoin. In your everyday life you won’t think about Bitcoin that much. You’ll still buy your cup of coffee with dollars or euros, or actually with cryptodollars and cryptoeuros to be specific. But you’ll have a savings account in Bitcoin though. Otherwise you’d just be dumb. Why would you save with an inflationary currency when there’s a deflationary one available that will always go up in price compared other currencies? Sounds crazy I’m sure, but so did the internet in 1980.

Undisputed decentralized truth

There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin, and the last one will be mined sometime around 2140. But one Bitcoin can be broken up into 100 million Satoshis. Pretty soon we won’t be talking about Bitcoins. We’ll be talking about Satoshis, named of course after Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto, an unknown individual or group of people who disappeared mysteriously soon after it’s inception. This 21 million is the magic number that makes Bitcoin what it is. It’s the only thing in the entire universe with a guaranteed fixed supply. The only thing that is truly scarce. You can’t bribe anyone to create more Bitcoin. You can’t threaten anyone to create more Bitcoin. You can’t counterfeit Bitcoin. And once you transfer a Bitcoin, it’s gone forever. It’s immutable and immoveable.

Michael Saylor knows what’s up

Bitcoin isn’t really money. It’s a ledger of ownership. Bitcoin is digital property rights. It’s unfalsifiable truth. If you own the key to a wallet, you have access to the wallet. If you don’t, you don’t. Again, it’s the only asset in the universe that has these qualities. Every other thing of value you own needs to be validated or protected by a 3rd party for it to have value. The US government can decide to make your dollars obsolete. The bank you hold your gold in can decide to confiscate it. Your country can evict you from your lands. Holding Bitcoin makes you truly sovereign. You’re not financially dependant on anyone. This is a scary proposition for most people, but an absolute necessity for independent nation states.

But what about the network itself? Surely they can fuck you over and take your Bitcoin? No, they can’t. Bitcoin network is structured to promote decentralisation and security above everything else. It harvests human greed and turns it into individual sovereignty. Every individual actor inside the system is incentivised to promote systemic decentralisation, because it benefits them as individuals. The miners will happily confirm and secure your transactions because they get a reward. More people joining the network increases your individual buying power so you’ll have no incentive to keep them out. And on the virtuous cycle goes.

The geopolitical game theory

The undisputed nature of Bitcoin makes it the hardest form of money ever known to man. It’s also the only impartial form of money ever invented. The US, China, Elon Musk or your grandma can’t change it. You might think that Elon Musk made Bitcoin lose 40% of its value overnight, but that’s only true if you think in US dollar terms. Bitcoin didn’t change. US dollars changed. On a long enough time-frame, the relationship between US dollar and Bitcoin will reverse. You’ll think in terms of US dollar crashing or gaining value against Bitcoin. But those movements will be minuscule, because eventually Bitcoin will back the US dollar, and give it all its value.

Visualizing the Purchasing Power of the U.S. Dollar Over Time
The crashing dollar

In a world where countries don’t trust each other, the US dollar dominates international trade. It’s known as the world reserve currency. The value of the dollar is mostly based on US military dominance across the world. The strongest actor gets to make the rules. If you don’t believe me, go ask Gaddafi (although he’s very dead). There’s a reason why Russia and China don’t really use USD, but everyone else does. But the United States is faltering. It’s falling apart from the inside. Look at what’s happening in the world today. Do you really think that the US domination will continue for the next 10, 20, 50 years as it has for the last 50? New powers are rising, and not just China. European Union, for all its problems, was formed to act as a counterweight to US dominance in Europe. This new multipolar world will still need to trade with each other. But who can you trust? Bitcoin. It doesn’t discriminate and doesn’t care about your language, skin colour, military might or political views.

As Bitcoin becomes the de-facto method of international settlement, he who holds the most Bitcoin wins. There are only two ways to acquire Bitcoin: Mine it, or buy it on the open market. Of course you can always blackmail your citizens to hand over their private keys, but it doesn’t seem like the best PR move for your country. I predict there will be an arms race on the mining side and a mad rush on the buying side because the first-mover advantage is massive. If China goes all-in on Bitcoin, the US can’t really afford to stand on the sidelines, or vice versa. The geopolitical game theory of the situation forces both countries to act in each others interests. Just like the Bitcoin network itself, it will harvest both countries greed and turn it into peaceful trade. Attacking the network would only make you lose money. And a physical war is more expensive than an economic one.

By ushering in an era of forced international economic co-operation, Bitcoin will end all wars and commence the golden age of Pax Bitcoinica. When it comes to natural resources, offence is always cheaper than defence. But when it comes to encrypted decentralised digital assets, defence is infinitely cheaper than offence. If most of the value is held in abstract digitally encrypted assets, there are no incentives to stage a physical attack. And who can afford war in a world where you can’t print infinite money to finance it?

End of broadcast.

So… UFOs are real?

Relax, UFOs are fun. If you don’t want to play along, go read something else. Otherwise, strap in and let’s go for a ride.

Something weird happened in 2017. The most mainstreamest of the mainstream media publications, The New York Times, released an article about Pentagon’s UFO program, a covert operation which had been investigating ‘UAPs’ (unknown aerial phenomena) for a long time. UFOs of course having always been a topic only weirdos care about, be it Fox Mulder or Juhan Af Grann. But suddenly here it was on the front page of the most prominent publication of the world. And nobody knew what to do with it. So they ignored it and carried on with their life.

But now the cat’s out of the bag. With New York Times’ validation, UFOs crossed the Overton Window and became a legitimate topic of public discourse. Sort of. Over the past few years there have been more validated US Navy & Pentagon -approved videos of UFO sightings, and generals & politicians talking about them but somehow the larger public is still comatose on the subject: Freaking UFOs flying around breaking the laws of physics.

Now don’t get me wrong. You’ll have a hard time finding someone who’s more suspicious of the US corporate mainstream press than me. But you can’t have it both ways. If you’re using the New York Times as a source to debunk misinformation about racism or Covid, maybe you should believe them when they tell you that UFOs are real and nobody has any idea what they are.

Maybe the most interesting aspect of the modern UFO phenomenon is how the tables of mis-/dis-information have turned. With covid-19 or Trump/Biden election, it was New York Times that was hailed as the truth, and publications like New York Post as right wing disinformation. Now with UFOs, the biggest debunkers are the likes of NY Post and NY Times & Washington Post seem convinced they’re real. Who knows what’s going on. But I know what my stance is.

The X-Files - I Want To Believe Juliste, Poster | Tilaa netistä Europosters.fi

I grew up on X-Files and Stargate and got online when Internet was still fun and free. I’ve spent way too much time on the UFO topic not to be convinced that there’s SOMETHING there. What that something is, that’s the million dollar question. UFOs aren’t automatically aliens. They’re unidentified flying objects. But they sure as hell aren’t Chinese or Russian drones either. If any nation discovered technology that can basically bend gravity, you think they would mainly use it to fly around randomly and not to dominate the world technologically, financially and militarily?

Which finally brings us to the meat of the issue. If UFOs are real, and they sure as hell seem to be, how long has this been happening and what does it all mean?

If UFOs are real, is the UFO mythology real?

You’ve seen X-files. You know about the grey aliens, the cigarette-smoking man, the government cover-up, Roswell, Tunguska, cow mutilations, abductions and all the rest. UFOs aren’t just UFOs. They are a worldwide conspiracy of highest order: Aliens probing us, living amongst us and working with our governments. And if you’ve seen Ancient Aliens, you also know that the aliens most likely made us, built our pyramids and left messages in our DNA.

Maybe.

But all joking aside, there have been stories about UFOs for decades, centuries or even millenia, depending on what you count as UFO stories. I mean former US President Jimmy Carter had a UFO incident. We even had one in Finland in 1969. We’ve grown accustomed to dismissing those stories as meaningless hallucinations. But were they? Again, if UFOs exist, why wouldn’t have they existed in the 60’s? Bob Lazar became famous in the 80’s for claiming that the US government was studying a crashed UFO and it’s propulsion system in Area 51 and was widely mocked. Pretty interesting that his descriptions of the physics involved seem to track 100% with the latest sightings.

Of course the most well-known UFO incident of all time is the Roswell crash of 1947. But that one has been hashed out enough. Let’s go further back. Here’s the painting Babtism of Christ from 1710:

Babtism of Christ, 1710

Looks pretty UFOish to me. Ok, on to the 15th century then:

Pin on Unsolved mysteries.
The Madonna with Saint Giovanno

If you don’t see a dude looking at a UFO, I don’t know what to tell you. But let’s not stop there. Here’s The Annunciation With Saint Emidus, 1486:

What do you think of the newly released UAF aka UFO pics released by the navy? - GirlsAskGuys

Yeah. I don’t know either. One more:

Freaking super-old French cave painting

That French cave painting dates somewere around 13 000 B.C. So there’s that.

Yeah yeah yeah just tell me what it all means

I don’t know. But it’s interesting. Way more fucking interesting than the culture war or politics. But also weird and confusing. Here’s a fun little tidbit to end on: The first officially released Pentagon videos were first leaked and published by “To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science”. Good luck figuring that company out. The CEO is Tom DeLonge from Blink-182 and it’s board is full of ex-CIA & government high-ups. Here’s what their ‘science and technology division’ does:

TTSA collects documents and physical materials from public and private sources related to the UAP phenomena to study it and then transitions the transformative technologies behind it to wider applications of public benefit. The company’s consulting and research arm features top former officials from the Pentagon, CIA, Department of Defense, and Lockheed Martin Skunkworks.

All I know is that I want to live to see the Blink-182 guy prove to the world that aliens are real.
